The Crucible by Arthur Miller Essay -- Essay on The Crucible

The Crucible was based in 1692 in and rough the townsfolk of Salem,Massachusetts, USA. The Salem witch-hunt was view as one of thestrangest and most horrendous chapters in the human history. Peoplethat were prosecuted were all innocent and their deaths were all dueto put on accusation of peoples ridiculous belief in superstition andtheir paranoia. The Puritans in those times were very strict insomebodyal habits and pietism swearing, drunkenness and gambling wouldbe punished. The people of Salem believed in the disoblige and thoughtthat witchcraft should be hunted out. The flirt can be seen as ageneral statement on the effects that maintenance and fanaticism can have onhuman existences and how one person can cause such catastrophe. It is a purely a controversial play, so why write a play knowing the risk you were putting yourself in? Arthur Miller wrote theplay because he was accused of being a communist Miller attendedmeetings between communist writers. He was fined and give n a suspendedprison sentence. When he wrote the play, he center on a series oftrue events, which took place in and around the town of Salem. AsMiller saw what was happening around him at the time, he realised thathe himself could not take any manoeuvre action, or speak out once against theact of McCarthyism because he could put himself in danger. He did, however, realise that he could make other Americans see how they were playacting towards each other and how paranoia were the main cause to thiswidespread hysterical neurosis. Realising that he has to celebrate this hysteriafrom developing further was to write a play, in accept that the audiencewould see what the hidden meaning and message he was stressful toportray, instead of being just a play. Many thi... ...s and McCarthyism have uniform beginnings andsimilar results. Such hysteria came about because of the excessivesuspicion that was planted in the peoples minds, by Parris andMcCarthy. Despite this, it was Parris and McC arthy who primarily risethe hysteria that occurred. Such hysteria may occur today, dealingwith the issue on terrorism. Racial write and accusations may beprominent in our state of matter once again If the right events and the rightpeople trigger such a sc are, our country could be in a state of masshysteria as it was two times already. Despite the age of The Cruciblethere are many issues included in it that are still very applicable inthe modern world to day. Due to Millers canny plot and distinctivetechniques, he was able to bring the history to life. This play turnedout to be one of the most relevant plays of the historic and of today.
